What causes sensitive teeth and receeding gums and why will an electric toothbrush help?

Tooth sensitivity is caused by the exposure of the softer part of your tooth that lies under the tooth enamel, called "dentine".

Dentine has tiny tubes ('tubules') that lead to the nerve and are filled with fluid. Eating or drinking foods and drinks that are hot, cold or sweet can cause a change in fluid movement. This fluid movement causes the nerve endings to react in response, triggering a short, sharp pain. Using a toothbrush, and toothpaste designed to combat these changes and protect your teeth from the pain will ensure that these tubes and less exposed and therefore the temperature and movment changes are more gentle and less painful.

An electric toothbrush will ensure that each tooth is coated with the toothpaste and they will also ensure you brush for the full reccomended 2 minutes allowing the toothpaste time to effectively treat your problem areas.

What toothpaste do we reccomend for Sensitive Teeth?

We highly reccomend Sensodyne Rapid Relief Mint Toothpaste To Relieve The Pain Of Sensitive Teeth, it's an excellent product and has offered me years of releif from the all too common problem of sensitive teeth.
